Coventry City have offered Academy goalkeeper
Neil Collett a one-year professional deal.
Collett is the second player from last year’s Under 18s to be offered a pro contract, along
with striker Matty West, and he admitted that he is looking forward to what the next 12 months hold.
“I’m delighted to be offered a deal, especially as I’m a Coventry kid,” said Collett, who has been on the books of the Sky Blues for eight years.
“The Under 18s didn’t have the best of seasons last year but I suppose in a way that brings the best out of you
as a goalkeeper
“I’m really excited and I can’t wait to get going. I will hopefully get some reserve
experience next season and be involved in and around the first team.”
The 18-year-old has a lengthy list of keepers ahead of him on the books of the Sky Blues but he
hopes to progress under the guidance of a City legend.
“I’ve worked with Oggy ever since I’ve been at the Club – I can’t
get away from him! He’s my hero and I’m looking forward to working with him and all the other keepers.
“We’ve just signed Keiren Westwood who is a quality keeper and we’ve made some
other good signings as well so it looks like it can be a good season and I’m looking forward to playing a part in it.”
Sky Blues season ticket prices cheapest in Championship
A national survey has revealed that Coventry
City ’s season ticket prices are the cheapest in the Championship.
The Sky Blues have come out as the cheapest in their league in a survey into the prices of tickets
for clubs in all four divisions, with fans paying as little as just £277 for 23 league games in the 2008/09 campaign.
This is £13 less than the next cheapest Championship clubs, Charlton and Barnsley, and a full £248
cheaper than the most expensive club in the second tier – Crystal
Palace – where supporters fork out £525 to watch the Eagles play.
Coventry’s prices are also cheaper than nearly 80 per cent
of the teams in League One thanks to the fact that the club has frozen its prices for the second year in succession.
Sky Blues supporters have until Monday June 30 to purchase their season tickets at the cheapest
“Early Bird” prices and are hoping to reach the 9,000 mark.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman said: “The supporters have been superb since I arrived at the
Ricoh and the crowds we got last season were fantastic considering where we were in the league.
“We got over 28,000 at our final home game against Wolves, which was higher than anything
we ever got at Fulham in the Premier League when I was manager there.
“I hope that supporters have seen that, with the new owners and a new management team, we
really mean business for the coming campaign. I can promise we are doing our best to assemble a squad of players the fans
are going to want to come to support.
“Our aim is always to do our best to play attractive, winning football. If we do that I’m
sure the supporters will come again and we know that there is potential for massive support in this area..
“All I can ask is that the fans come and get their season tickets because we’re certainly
going to need your support again.”
The Sky Blues' Carling Cup game against Aldershot Town is set to take place on Wednesday August
13, 2008 (KO 7.45pm)
The Round One match will coincide with the Club's 125th anniversary celebrations.
Ticket prices have now been confirmed at £12 for adults and £6 for concessions.
Coventry City have signed goalkeeper
Keiren Westwood from Carlisle for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old joins the Sky Blues on a three-year deal and becomes City’s third signing
of the close season, following in the footsteps of midfield duo Guillaume Beuzelin and Aron Einar Gunnarsson.
Regarded by many as one of the best goalkeepers outside the top flight, Westwood is an excellent
shot stopper and commanding in the box.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman believes Westwood is a quality addition to the Sky Blues squad.
“We’re delighted that Keiren has chosen to join us at Coventry ,” he said. “He is an excellent young goalkeeper who has all the credentials
to be a huge success here.
“He has enjoyed his time with Carlisle and is ready to take
a step up. He’s a big, confident lad, he’s very agile and he is exactly the sort of player we are looking to bring
in.”
Westwood has spent the last four seasons with Carlisle, having been released by Manchester City in 2004.
He has made 153 appearances for the Cumbrian outfit and enjoyed a highly successful 2007/2008 campaign
between the sticks, when his 19 clean sheets helped Carlisle reach the League One play-offs before they were narrowly beaten
by Leeds in the semi-finals.
His performances saw him win a place in the League One Team of the Year as well as a call-up to
the senior Republic of Ireland
squad, although he is yet to earn his first cap. He also scooped all of Carlisle’s

Early Bird Extension
Coventry City
Football Club has extended its offer of reduced priced season tickets until June 30 *.
Having secured
their status in the Championship, the 2008/2009 campaign promises to be a hugely exciting season for the Sky Blues, with Chris
Coleman embarking on his first full season as City manager and Chairman Ray Ranson already stating that money will be made
available for new signings.
The Club is
keen to make the cheapest season ticket prices available to as many fans as possible to ensure the Ricoh Arena is packed to
the rafters in 2008/09.
Supporters
originally had until Friday May 16 to purchase season tickets at the cheapest “Early Bird” prices but after careful
consideration, the decision has been made to extend this deadline to Monday June 30, for those who can pay by cash or credit/debit
card in one up front payment.
If fans wish
to guarantee their existing seat, they must apply by the original deadline of May 16. After this date, all seats within the
Ricoh Arena will be released for general sale.
Also, if supporters
want to pay for their season ticket by direct debit, using the 10-month interest free payment plan, they must have their application
in by 5pm on Friday May 16.
Coventry City
Chairman Ray Ranson explained: “We have extended our Early Bird prices to enable any supporters who are undecided about
purchasing a season ticket more time to do so at the cheapest prices.
“We desperately
want an electric atmosphere inside Ricoh for what I am sure will be a far more exciting season for our loyal fans than the
one they have just experienced.
“We are
well aware that many of our supporters were hanging on to find out what division we would be in before purchasing their season
ticket.
“Having
stayed up we are now looking to challenge at the other end of the table next season and in order to do so we must have as
many fans as possible packing the Ricoh.
“I think
the final home game against Wolves proved that, with a larger gate at the Ricoh, we can create one of the best atmospheres
in the division and that can certainly make a difference to how we perform.
“We have,
as people know, drawn up a list of players that Chris would like to strengthen the squad to try to ensure that we are figuring
at the other end of the table. We are already following up that list.
“We also
appreciate that currently finances are hard for many people at the moment so we have taken the decision to extend the deadline
until the end of June to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the cheapest prices.”
The cheapest
adult season ticket at Early Bird prices is just £296. After June 30 the cheapest adult season ticket price will increase
to £344 so by purchasing early fans will save themselves nearly £50.
To purchase
your season ticket, either return the application form you received in your Sky Blues News Newspaper or download one from
the official website, ccfc.co.uk. Alternatively contact the Club on 0844 873 1883.
Additional Notes:
* Fans wishing
to purchase their season ticket by direct debit over 10 interest free monthly payments must do so by Friday May 16 in order
to take advantage of Early Bird discounts.
- After Friday May 16 all seats in the Ricoh Arena will go on general
sale. To guarantee an existing seat fans must apply by Friday May 16.
- Extended Early Bird prices are eligible only for supporters who can
purchase their season tickets in one up front payment.

in point. 3208 in the South Stand and countless others all over the ground. Supporters had flown in from all over the place.
______________
Coventry City are in the Championship for another season after Carlo Nash performed heroics to send Leicester down. The atmosphere as the City support was superb especially
in the pubs before we made our way into a smartly redeveloped Valley Stadium. The singing was excellent but all we got for
our hard work, effort and expense was an abomination of a performance. City, who will be in Scandinavia for pre-season,
were a goal down in less than four minutes when Luke Varney was
given tons of space by Fox and Dann, who again displayed that they are a long way from the finished article that any Premier
League club would want to buy. Varney was given the freedom of the Valley and as Kasper Schmeichel came out,not as quick as
he should have done,Varney lobbed him and watched the ball bounce into an empty net. Varney did not even celebrate the
goal but in the 18th minute, the Charlton support were on their feet when a flick by Varney landed for Andy Gray to drive in. City had passed the ball quite nicely but had done little in the final
third. However,a minute of the goal, they pulled one back when Tabb played in Mifsud
who netted with a low drive into the corner for his first goal in 25 league matches. Michael Doyle was always busy whilst
Stephen Hughes, who will probably leave after the club delayed offering him a contract.,lost as much as he won. Charlton, with
the excellent Youga and McCarthy easily dealing with Leon Best and occasionally Tabb plus Mifsud, controlled the game and it
was only thanks to an excellent Isaac Osbourne tackle and a Ward header that City were not down as we headed into the
break. The half-time scores elsewhere meant that the Sky Blues were safe but four miinutes into the second half, City looked
like relegation favourites when Charlton added a third. Again,Kasper Schmeichel should have done better with a weak punch
that fell for Grant Basey to ram home. Thankfully, things elsewhere
were going our way with Leicester
still drawing and Sheffield United equalising at Southampton. "We are staying up" sang the City support as Zavon Hines was introduced to
the attack. Kevin Thornton had already come on but there was nothing he could do as so many City players were by now preparing
for their holidays and clearly could not give a toss about the club or the support, who had spent a lot of time and effort
for this game and throughout the season. Back at Stoke,Carlo Nash was making some great saves as Charlton brought on Chris Powell. This must have been Powell's last game for the Addicks as he
got a standing ovation from the home fans who went ballistic a minute later. Fox and Dann failed to prevent a 84th cross
and there was Powell with the simple of task of stroking the ball into the net which he did before celebrating with the fans
at the opposite end. The final whistle went and the City players were deservedly booed off after this 4-1 defeat.
Many headed for the tunnel before coming back onto the pitch when the score from Stoke came through that the Sky Blues were
safe only because Leicester failed to win. And so thankfully
another season is over and we can put this nightmare to bed. Thanks for reading my reports, thanks to everyone who
has helped me get to all the matches this season and see you next season.
